Home sweet home
Just got back from Galena last night. Wow! 26 years in Alaska and I have never been to a "village" before and it was so interesting. I had a good time but wished I could've stayed a bit longer to learn more about it. It was just neat to see the way people live there... so remote and it is definitely a place where you'd have to love it to stay. They have all the modern amenities of us "city folk" but just the remoteness of it all... no roads to take you out of town. Crazy. I thought Fairbanks was remote... uhhh not even. Was only there a day and a half so most of the time was spent working but it was neat.
Weather made a turn for the worst. It's -28 now and it's supposed to get down to -45 tonight. At least the wind has simmered down. I freaking HATE wind and we don't get much of it so far up in the interior here. When it is windy (in the dead of winter), it feels like death. I always thought'd be neat to live in a southern area of Alaska because it's warmer but thinking about the wind involved, I've changed my mind.
One good thing about winter now is that we are on the upswing of daylight. I think we have about 6 hours a day now and are gaining more and more every day. Ahhhh... i feel human again. I didn't even have to hit any tanning beds this year to get a dose of UV rays. LOL... honestly, everyone says tanning is bad for you but if you had to spend a lightless winter here, you wouldn't be saying that. There is NOTHING like hopping under some heat lamps when it's -30 and dark. It does wonders for your sanity. Don't even care about the tan thing. Just give me light. Hehe.
I'm glad to be home in my own pajamas. I have tons of stuff to get done today but not sure where to start. Maybe I'll put it all in a hat and draw what to do first. :) Yeah, that's what I'll do.
