at least i have my health???
Colds, flus, every sickness known to mankind seems to have entered our lives here in the house the past few months. I am at a standstill today because if it's not one thing, it's another.
Wednesday night - After getting through the flu on Monday and Tuesday, I come home from work completely exhausted and my teeth start feeling sensitive. In particular, my upper right canine. Tender and not so much like a toothache... just sensitive. I don't know how to explain it. I had some dental work done a few weeks ago (another bling bling crown) in the general vicinity of that area. All was fine with it, though... as always, my mouth is a warzone but it always takes treatment well and I usually walk out of the dentist's office smiling. Am thinking maybe the bite is off and that is what is causing sensitivity but honestly, the bite feels fine... mighty fine.
Thursday - Things start feeling worse. By night, the pain is real and I can't even sleep it off because I can't fall asleep with the pain. Take some motrin and it works for about half an hour.
Friday morning - Call dentist and they set me up to come in around noon. I take two Tylenol and they do absolutely nothing. Jaw hurts from not being able to close mouth all the way and headache and sinuses hurt pretty badly. My dentist is out of the office but his partner files down some surrounding teeth/crowns to relieve pressure on the canine. This helps a little bit. At least I can almost close my mouth all the way. He prescribes me some penicillin and vicodin. He tells me to come back and talk to my dentist next week to figure out what to do about some dark areas near the root canalled areas. Something about maybe needing to have the endotonist go back in and clean stuff out or possible extraction. On one hand, a little pissy as I don't want to lose that tooth that I spent a grip on keeping but on the other hand, i give a rat's behind as long as it stops hurting.
Friday 1:00 - I jam to Freddies pharmacy to get me some vicodin. The wait is over an hour and a half so I just drop and go to work. Decided to pick up after work. In the meantime, I buys some Advil liquigels. I love these because they seem to work really fast for me if I take them for headache or whatever. Pop a couple and massage my jaw. Work proves fruitless. I can't work because I can't concentrate on anything but my aching mouth.
Friday 5:00 - I jam back to Freddies and get my scrips. Grab some chicken and soup from the deli because I haven't eaten in eons and know that I am not in any kind of mood to be messing with "what's for dinner?" Get home, start ripping into the penicillin and vicodin. Vicodin usually works immediately for me. Guess I must have a tollerance or something. It did absolutely nothing. I popped a few more Advil. At least I could have half an hour of relief so I could eat, right?
Friday 10:00 - Still hurting... nothing to do but try to nap and sleep the pain away... taking lots of Advil and penicillin in between naps.
Saturday 5:00 in the morning - mouth and jaw pain subsided but I have a new problem to deal with. The right side of my face has swollen to the size of a basketball. Cheek is very tender and feels like it is ready to pop. I read the side of the Advil bottle. One of the allergic reactions listed is facial swelling. Do not take more than 6 in 24 hours. Oops. I must've had about 8 or 10 in half that time. Okay, I'm not in as much pain so I'll just skip the Advil now and the swelling should go away. Hmmm... nope. All day swollen. By 5 pm, I decide I need to make some decisions because looking like I have FAS is not an option. I either need to go into the urgent care clinic or maybe take some Benedryl? I opt for the Benedryl. Nothing happened and I fell asleep from a massive migraine. Wake up at like 8 and it is too late now to go to the urgent care clinic probably. I do not want to go to the ER. It doesn't really hurt and thus doesn't qualify as an emergency in my opinion.
So here I sit, napping on and off. Guess what? It's still swollen. Now I'm wondering if it's the penicillin. I've never been allergic before. I should take it again (was due for a dose a few hours ago) but now i'm afraid to. Thankfully, my mouth isn't in excruciating pain anymore but I don't know what to do about this swelling. It's almost painful within itself... kwim? I will probably head to the clinic in the morning. Do I have any other choice?
